Abstract

Skin protection is an important component of maintaining its healthy state. One of the mechanisms of skin protection is its hydration. Natural mechanisms of skin hydration provide its protection from dryness and irritation, stimulation of cell renewal, maintenance of elasticity and firmness, thereby reducing the visibility of wrinkles and signs of aging. Skin hydration is a complex physiological process, the main ones are active water transport, the osmotic mechanism of the body, the metabolic activity of keratinocytes and natural moisturizing factor (NMF) and skin lipids. Two main mechanisms are distinguished: the formation of a film on the skin surface and an increase in moisture levels by reducing dermal water loss.
