Physocarpus opulifolius (L.) Maxim. As a prospective source of medicinal plant raw materials

Abstract

(Spiraea opulifolia) is a representative of the genus Physocarpus [1] of the Rosaceae family, which includes more than 7 species. This species has long been widely used in green construction in different countries of the world. This is facilitated by its high decorativeness (due to abundant fragrant inflorescences in spring, bright foliage color in autumn and the combination of red juicy fruits of leaflets against the background of multi-colored foliage). Also, growth rate, unpretentiousness to soil conditions, rapid growth, frost resistance, drought and gas resistance, shade tolerance, resistance to urban environmental factors and damage by pests and diseases are important factors in its popularity. In Ukraine, this invasive species often goes wild. According to the "Classification of purple woody plants by colour variability of leaf blade", the varieties "Diablo", "Seward", "Red baron" are classified as purple forms. For Ninebark varieties "Lady in Red", "Raspberry Lemonade", "Summer Wine", "Summer Wine ® Black", "Tiny Nine". Given the small size of the plants, minimal requirements for cultivation, unpretentiousness to environmental conditions, the plant is a very promising species for landscaping large open city streets, parks, squares, and is often used in private gardens and on homestead plots
